Summer Block Party Coordinator

Dear WBA Leaders,

Ryan NorthI am very pleased to let you know that we have received government funding for a summer position here at the WBA office. Ryan North has accepted the position again, and will be coordinating everything to do with our block party equipment. Ryan begins work on June 1st and will be using the email address blockparty@westcoastbaptist.ca . He can also be reached here at the office at 604-904-8908.

To request equipment, please first have a look at the calendar here on our Web site, and then if the dates you would like the equipment are open, please fill out the request form.

We have had some request forms go missing in cyberspace, so please WAIT FOR CONFIRMATION BY EMAIL and do not assume your request is approved until you hear from Ryan or me.

There are many expenses related to the block party equipment including annual licensing fees for the bouncers, insurance, and maintaining or replacing equipment.  WBA has no way to pay for these costs other than by receiving donations from churches who borrow the equipment. Broken equipment is usually not able to be replaced. (That is why I have removed the “sno cone” machine from the list of available equipment. There is still one sno cone machine in the trailer for those who borrow the trailer.) All of that to say please do consider making a donation of any amount.

Before your church can borrow the bouncy castles or trailer, you must have at least one person (and preferably more) trained on the operation and safety rules of the equipment. We are required, by the licensing agency and our insurance company, to train users. If it has been a long time since you or anyone from your church has had the training, you might want to attend a training session to refresh your memory. Here are several opportunities for training:

  1. Assist a church with a block party or event where you will get hands-on training from one of our experienced borrowers. For example, Urban Village Church has an event this Saturday, May 28, where they will be using the bouncers, and The Common Place has an event on July 1st using the trailer and a bouncer.
  2. Come to the WBA office at one of these times:  June 10th (Friday), 10:00-11:30 a.m.  OR  June 13 (Monday) 7:30-9:00 p.m.  – register first by simply replying to this email.
  3. Contact Ryan to arrange an alternate time for training. Blockparty@westcoastbaptist.ca

Looking forward to a great summer of outreach and ministry,

Janet
