Monday Morning Manna: Life’s Upgrades
Being upgraded is not always what it’s projected to be. I am enough of a frequent flyer with a certain airline that I get automatic upgrades when available. Recently I received a text message informing me that in my upcoming flight I had been upgraded to first class. My brash, uppity, excitement upon arriving at the airport was short lived when I realized I was on a regional jet with only three rows in first class – two seats on one side of the aisle, one seat on the other side. The seats in “first class” were identical to the seats in the remainder of the aircraft, separated only by a thin curtain. The first class meal I expected was a tray containing a variety of chips and cookies, and I was told, “pick one.” My first class, superiority complex vanished when I remembered Paul’s words that one be warned “not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think” (Romans 12:3). So when life offers you an upgrade, be thankful, but be careful before you flaunt it.
