Beginning Point for the Ultimate Journey
Maps are great for planning a journey. Following the map is not always a strength I possess. I have spent many hours on side roads and recalculating the next step toward the destination because I thought there was a better way. I have missed turns lost in thought of another place and another time. But when focus is not a problem and a good map is provided, the trip usually reaches a planned destination relatively effortlessly. The same is true in my spiritual journey. It is not confusion about the goal but it certainly is often stubbornness or focus that has led to side roads and painful lessons of disobedience.
I have also often thought it was interesting that new years resolutions and the new beginnings of a new year occur in the winter season when the nights are longer and the weather more sever. But it is also those times when the over abundance of water is stored for the seasons of growth. And so as it rains on the streets of Vancouver on a dark night in January, I pause to start a new year and recalibrate for the Journey.
As I pick-up the map and sit down in the presence of my Lord to focus on the road ahead, I begin to wonder….Where am I? I discovered five good questions and some key references point from the map to answer the question. Do you want to join me for the journey? Let take the week to reflect on the answer to those five questions.
- Where am I with God? (Genesis 3:1-13, Psalm 139)
- Where am I with God’s Word? (Psalm 119:111, 130, 2 Timothy 3:16)
- Where am I in terms of worshiping God? (Psalm 29:1-2, 115:4-8, Romans 12:1-2)
- Where am I in Fellowship with others? (Psalms 133, Act 2:42-47, John 13:35)
- Where am I in terms of evangelism? (Matthew 28:19-20, Jude 20-23
