Monday Morning Manna: Throwback Memories

An interesting feature of social media is TBT (Throwback Thursday) where people post pictures and memories of past days. A few recent events have had me using my memory overtime. I’m actually communicating with friends via social media that I had not visited with in fifty years. One of my fondest memories of my grandfather was sitting on his front porch (You do remember front porches don’t you?) and listening to him remember his past experiences. How appropriate that at his funeral, we sang, “Precious memories, how they linger, how they ever flood my soul. In the stillness of the midnight, precious, sacred scenes unfold.” Speaking of funerals, a couple of them in recent days have jogged my memory to days and events of earlier times. While we can neither relive, nor recapture the past, we can remember. Surely one of God’s greatest gifts is the gift of memory, and one of life’s greatest griefs is the loss of same. The Old Testament is filled with accounts of memory as God desired His chosen people to remember certain things. The writer of Proverbs proclaims, “The memory of the righteous is blessed” (Proverbs 10:7). May you be blessed this week with precious memories.
